Woken early this morning, the HMs were not overjoyed about the situation but knew the Monday morning routine. It was time for BB to reveal this week’s unusual task!

Newcomer Terrence hoped for the best. “It will be a very nice task I’m sure,” he vocalized. The rest of the House wasn’t so sure. Renee collected the letter from BB and read it aloud to the group.

“Housemates,
Your task this week is to ignore the obvious.
The rules are simple.
At any time during the week you will see and hear things which clearly do not belong in the Big Brother house.
To pass this week’s task, all you have to do is ignore them.”

It may sound easy enough, but in a House completely cut off from the outside world with no TV, no radio and no books - anything out of the ordinary sparks a great deal of attention.

BB then revealed the rewards window and just what the HMs were playing for. As the glass demisted a carnival theme was laid out before HMs eyes. Their prize was to include carnival culinary treats such as beef burgers, pop corn, fairy floss, chocolate and a variety of fun festival foods for HMs to enjoy.

Alice suspected if they won, the backyard might be turned into a theme park for a celebration.  Brigitte imagined that maybe the yard will be transformed before the end of the task and instead of playing on the rides and enjoying the fun fair, the HMs might just have to ignore it all.

The HMs hypothesized about what might be in store and how they would cope. For example, a ninja running through the living room would have to be ignored, and they couldn’t acknowledge weird sounds played throughout the House.

Terrence was confused. Rory, with 6 weeks BB experience under his belt, shed some light on the situation for the newcomer.  “So if we walk out there [into the backyard] and everything’s different, we just ignore it,” Rory instructed Terrence.

No sooner has Rory made this statement then the door to the backyard started to open.  Brigitte let out a squeal but Rory quickly cut her off. “Don’t,” he disciplined. “… it’s a nice day outside,” Brigitte corrected as she tried to hide her reaction.  Ben and Terri agreed with her remarking how nice the gloomy rainy day was hoping BB didn’t notice Brigitte’s slip.

The HMs pretended to be oblivious to the fact the backyard was now covered completely in aluminum foil.  The sun chairs, swiss ball, the table, the fence, the weights, the rope tree and even the plastic farm animals were all shining silver. Yet the HMs stayed poker faced, for the most part at least.

Later Ben and Rory attempted to play dumb to the sudden appearance of a dancing Gorilla in the rewards window. Ben was startled, and began to point out the ape’s appearance, with a groan from Rory he ceased his surprise and continued the conversation, feigning interest in a pot plant instead.  Ben didn’t want to give the distraction any of his attention but couldn’t help but side eye the jovial primate jumping around.  He had a chuckle to himself and fired a look at Rory, but then continued to try and divert his eyes.

No doubt the distractions and unusual occurrences will escalate through out the week; will HMs have the self discipline to ignore what’s right in front of them?
