Yesterday, the HMs were given the option to buy two care packages from home in the vending machine. The HMs decided Ben and Travis would be the lucky recipients, with Terri missing out.
While Terri was happy for the HMs, she couldn’t help but shed a tear at what had been so close – yet so far. Later that night, BB gave the HMs an option to swap the treadmill for the package – but the HMs couldn’t agree on the terms and the care package went begging again.
This weighed heavily on Travis’s mind. All night, he pondered what the HMs could do to earn the package for Terri and this morning, he appealed to BB to give them a Task to earn the bundle of love. Travis knew how much it meant to Terri and wanted to make sure she heard from her loved ones. He proposed that HMs put in an extra ironing effort today, with the task taking on extra responsibility. BB commended Travis for his idea and told him if they could iron a full basket of clothes each in one hour, without Terri knowing, then he would consider awarding them Terri’s care package.
Travis was invigorated and woke up the HMs to tell them the news. They plotted and planned and decided they’d tell Terri it was National Nanna Day and keep her occupied in the bedroom with breakfast in bed while they set to ironing.
The operation was successful – with both Travis and Rory distracting Terri with conversation while the HMs hurriedly ironed and folded, they managed to deliver the baskets as required. “We have your four baskets of ironing in one hour as requested,” Travis said to BB as he, Rory and Ben brought the pressed clothes into the Diary Room. The boys told BB they were determined to earn Terri’s care package and couldn’t wait to see the look on her face.
“HMs, well done. You’ve ironed one basket of clothing each, well within the allotted hour. However…” BB paused and HMs’ faces dropped. They knew what was coming and didn’t want to hear it. “BB couldn’t help but notice - you weren’t wearing your Ironman costumes,” posed BB. “You didn’t mention anything about our Ironman costumes this morning BB,” whined Travis. “When HMs are ironing, they must be wearing their Ironman costumes,” BB informed the boys.
“That’s such a dog act,” sighed Ben, not at all happy with BB’s decision but knowing they had broken the rules. “Your clothes will be delivered to charity,” BB told them. He informed the boys they would have to think of another idea to earn their desired reward. But instead, all they could do was argue how unfair it was and sulk.
“HMs, your effort to win Terri her package will not go unappreciated and you were very close to wining it for her,” BB continued. “BB feels on National Nanna Day the one thing missing in Terri’s day is some much needed entertainment.” BB suggested that an impromptu talent show of some sort might amuse the Nanna of the House.
“OK, so if we do the talent show… can we come to the Diary Room afterwards and get Terri’s care package for her?” Travis questioned, frustrated with the failed effort. “That depends entirely on how entertained Terri is. Entertain Terri with you talent Housemates, and Terri wins. Fail to entertain Terri and her care package stays in BB’s care,” instructed BB.
Rory told BB he was thinking of a play based on the Ironman theme. BB commented that it sounded like a ‘hoot’! It was on! The HMs headed to the backyard to invent an entertaining presentation for National Nanna Day, complete with salvaged costumes from the ironing and a theme relating to the weekly Task.
The act began like this - Alice was drowning in the sea of clothes and the Ironmen had to save her. Rory narrated from up on the lifeguard seat, sitting comfortably in his beloved g-string. Terri laughed uncontrollably as she watched the special performance. “Very good, very good. Very funny! Very entertaining,” she applauded.
After the recital, BB called all HMs to the DR. BB asked Terri if she was indeed entertained. “It was very amusing BB. It was very well thought out,” she giggled. BB asked if Terri knew why the HMs had staged this performance for her. “Maybe because they had nothing better to do?” she supposed.
“Terri, BB put your HMs up to this performance. If you were entertained, your HMs would win you a prize,” BB told Terri. She waited with baited breath. BB informed them he accepted their performance. “Terri, your prize awaits you in the lounge room. Enjoy the rest of National Nanna Day,” announced BB.
Terri screamed as she emerged form the Diary Room to see her care package sitting on the lounge. There was a big group hug, as all the HMs showed Terri how much they appreciated her and she reciprocated. Terri was in tears before she had even laid a hand on her gifts from home. “Let her at it,” Rory urged.
Terri pulled back the wrapping carefully, telling the HMs she wanted to keep the paper. HMs all sighed as Terri opened her care package, tears were streaming down her face. “Oh he’s so sweet” cooed Alice, as they looked at the personalised bears Joe had made for her. “Not a bad looking bloke there Terri,” commented Rory, looking at the pictures of Joe.
Looking at the photos, Terri couldn’t believe how much her Grandson had grown. “His face has changed a lot,” she observed, smiling from ear to ear. “That’s my mug from work … and it’s dirty,” Terri chuckled as she discovered her work mates had included her tea mug. “That’s hilarious,” Terri beamed.
“Are you stoked Tez?” Travis asked, after she had inspected all the goodies. “Yeah, thank you guys,” Terri smiled. “Thank you guys, that’s so nice of you,” Terri said to the HMs. She was so happy to have contact with her loved ones and The HMs were happy to have earned her the privilege.
