A six hour meal. Burned egg crumpets. Scorched snags. Just some of Travy’s culinary masterpieces. But despite the failings, and his complete lack of understanding of what exactly most kitchen implements did, Travis was definitely on a sharp learning curve in the Kitchen.
Due to several Grenade twists and Ben’s banishment to the Backyard, Travis inadvertently became the sole House chef. The Housemates were exceedingly nervous about his abilities in the Kitchen – and suffice to say, their concerns were not unwarranted. However they – and Travis – were left almost stunned by his quick growth, as The Voice managed to produce some truly quality meals and a well-received dessert of berry cheesecake.
But just as he was hitting his apron straps… Big Brother had some news for our budding Jamie Oliver. “Travis,” Big Brother said in the Diary Room last night. “How’s the Head Chef this evening?” Travis affirmed that he was doing very well. “Would you say your confidence has risen over the past few days, regarding cooking?” BB asked. “Yeah! Today I actually wanted to cook, but none of my fellow Housemates had an appetite. So I just did bacon and egg with tomato and cheese crumpets. No one was hungry…” Travis lamented.
BB pondered whether perhaps the HMs didn’t want to wait several hundred hours for a meal to be presented to them. “Probably an element of what you said is true,” Travis mused, but laughed off the suggestion. “Overall, I think [my cooking efforts] went on a graph,” Travis said, using his finger to draw a skyrocketing line. “I am improving! Even Terri has been really, really encouraging and supportive since the steak and potato bake meal I prepared. Everyone’s been really supportive and I think they are impressed with the quality of the meals I have been providing,” Travis finished.
“When I leave the Big Brother House, I think I will be confident enough – or my Mum will be confident enough – to let me in the Kitchen, without thinking I am going to give the family food poisoning or burn the House down,” Travis smiled. He added he hoped his family would now let him cook for them when he returned home, minus fear of him “killing them.”
Hearing that Travis was now a confident chef, BB declared that Travis was relieved of his Head Chef duties. “What!?” Travis screeched. “Nooo!”
“You may now tell your Housemates the good news,” BB deadpanned. Travis guffawed, “Good news?” and clutched at the chef hat he was proudly wearing.
It was time for Travis to share his heartbreaking tale. He slowly took off his hat and fingering it, he attempted to tell the HMs that BB had asked him to choose a new “Big Brother chef, cleaner and PA.” The HMs peppered him with questions and Travis pretended to anoint Ben in the new role before he finally admitted that he was playing with them… and what he actually had to tell them was that he was no longer the Head Chef.
“Well done Travy, still the best meal we’ve had,” Alice said of Travis’s efforts, while the HMs broke out in scattered applause. “I actually wanted to keep doing it, I really liked it,” Travis moaned of being cut down in his prime. Alice and Terri reminded him that he wasn’t banished from the Kitchen – he could now receive instruction, and watch and learn from them. Looking thoughtful, Travis nodded. “You can teach me [how to make] cheesecake!” Alice said and Travis giggled.
Today, the HMs planned a late lunch of roast meat and vegetables. Travis was only too happy to help Alice and Terri with the preparations, but Alice said everything was sorted.
Despite being stripped of his duties, Travis happily continued wearing his chef hat all day… perhaps hopeful his HMs will once again request a meal a la Travy.
