Brigitte started on a journey of woe reminiscent of any devastating loss as she went through the motions of the textbook stages of grieving.
Shock
Initially, Brigitte was in a complete state of disbelief. Her mouth dropped open and her eyes widened - the shock stage has hit her hard. She screamed at the TV and hit the plasma screen with her shoe. “I hate Saxon,” she screamed as she began to cry. Comforted by Travis, Brigitte was in a state of distress and confusion as she tried to understand her situation. “What does indefinitely mean?” Brigitte pushed through her tears. Housemates explained to Brigitte that she might not get her stuff back until she leaves. “NO!” she cried.
Denial
Not only upset, Brigitte was also stunned Saxon had a problem with her talking about her unicorn. She moved through shock to denial, unable to accept her new state of affairs. “Why does he care!” she ranted. “If no one took my stupid unicorn then I wouldn’t have talked about it ... how did it affect him?”
Brigitte stormed into BB for clarification. Surely he wouldn’t take away all her possessions? But the Hand Grenade had exploded and Brigitte’s stuff had gone in a cloud of smoke.
“Well, what am I supposed to do?” she questioned. “Wear this same outfit for the next month?” Brigitte asked. BB assured her she was more than her material possessions and her HMs would help her through. But where would she be without her Sparkles and her bear? “I can’t sleep without them,” she appealed to BB.
Not able to change her situation Brigitte’s denial and disbelief soon became another emotion.
Anger
The anger and denial stage were cycled through alternatively as Brigitte tried to resist change and digest her dastardly predicament. She was angry at Saxon for taking her stuff and for his reasoning, she was angry that she was crying, angry for the challenges the BB House had presented to her and angry she couldn’t cuddle Princess Sparkles and make it all better.
“I hate Saxon,” Brigitte screamed on several occasions clearly distressed by Saxon’s actions.
“I wish I just got Evicted so I didn't have to look like a cry baby,” she told BB, who suggested Brigitte talk to her HMs about the situation. “The last time you told me to do that was to talk to my fellow HMs about my unicorn and now look where it's got me!” Brigitte’s face fell in her hands as she sobbed uncontrollably.
Brigitte flipped back to denial. “But I need my bears to sleep,” Brigitte sobbed to BB, not knowing how she could possibly continue life with them.
Bargaining
The only way Brigitte could see to move forward was to put some offers on the table and convince BB to cave to her demands. Brigitte had officially entered the bargaining stage of the grief cycle. “I’m not eating until you give my stuff back,” threatened Brigitte. BB answered she had coped without them before, but Brigitte didn’t see his logic. “I'm not strong at all,” she wailed. “Look, I'm crying!”
Leaving the DR, Brigitte told the HMs of her plans to go on a hunger strike, which Corey said was stupid. She sat in the spa with a solemn look on her face as Nobbi tried to get her to smile and convince her that it wasn’t that bad.
“I'm not talking to anyone until they give my clothes back,” Brigitte moped. “I don't care if people call me a cry baby.” Nobbi tried to reason with the brooding blonde. “They're just clothes, you can borrow clothes, you don't have to make a big deal out of it.”
“I'm not making a big deal out of it, I'm upset!” retorted Brigitte.
And with that, Brigitte progressed onto depression.
Depression
As it stands, Brigitte seems to be stuck in the throes of depression. Our Paris Wannabe is also a material girl and just doesn’t feel whole with out her possessions - sulking around the House sporting puffy eyes and a mismatched wardrobe.
Will she break the depression, survive without Sparkles and move onto the final stages of acceptance and hope?
