Alice proved she had the endurance and patience to outlast, out wit and out play the other Housemates - staying in her Doghouse for over 11 hours. For this marathon effort Alice was named the Guardian of the House’s very own Seeing Eye Dog puppy.
Alice’s first official task was to give the pup a name, after some serious thought he was christened “Ollie.”
Not only was Alice the guardian, she was also the appointed head trainer. Ollie will need to learn how to not only sit and stay, but eat and go to the toilet on command. HMs need to teach their pup all the skills needed to prepare Ollie for his future career.
“The implications of your success reach far beyond the boundaries of this House. If this puppy is trained well, he will become the constant companion and seeing eyes for a vision impaired person,” BB told Alice.
Alice whispered to little Ollie on her lap: “We can do it, hey, we can do it!”
Not a House pet but a working dog, Ollie needs to be trained for a special, specific purpose. Therefore BB handed down specific rules and boundaries surrounding Ollie’s stay in the House as well as a training manual and instructional DVD.
Alice chose five Housemates to be responsible for several puppy related chores. Travis, Rory, Terri, Ben and Bianca will be the team of canine experts assisting Alice with the task, each with their own specific duty. With a cheeky smile she awarded the job of cleaning up doggy do-do to none other than Nanna Terri.
BB made clear the ten golden rules surrounding Ollie’s time in the House. These designated how Ollie would be treated and trained and included constant supervision, seven training sessions per day while adhering to the puppy training manual and making sure young Ollie is fed and groomed. “He is only young, and must be taught right from wrong,” BB instructed.
As Alice was receiving her instructions Ollie was familiarising himself with the DR. Kitted out with toys, training material, food, beds - and all that a young pup could ever dream of, Ollie will surely be the new king of the kids!
Though Alice is a vet she had never been responsible for training a Seeing Eye Dog Australia Puppy. “We’ll read this [manual] and see how we go,” she told Big Brother, aware of the magnitude and importance of her task.
As Alice emerged from the DR with gorgeous Ollie, the HMs jumped for joy and let out some composed screams as not to startle the little tacker.
Alice introduced their new guest to the Housemates. “This is Ollie everyone,” she beamed. A great deal of oohing and ahhing ensued - that was from everyone except Dixie, who seemed disinterested and Renee who didn’t even get up off the lounge. Terri and Bianca shed a bit of a tear, reminded of how much they miss their own pups at home. Ben shared their sentiment. “I miss my dog so much now,” he expressed. “Oh he’s so beautiful,” sniffled Terri.
As Alice begun to relay all the rules of Ollie’s stay to the Housemates, as if on cue, Ollie peed in the middle of the lounge room. It seems there is a lot young Ollie and the Housemates have to learn!
