Travis immediately made an impression with his larger-than-life personality and his stranger-than-fiction speaking voice but he wore both with immense pride.
On their first night in the House, Travis maintained he was out to dispel stereotypes and hopefully take home a bit of coin. "I do, like most of you here, think we’re such a dynamic group of Housemates and I think we’ve all got a point to prove and stereotypes in society to challenge,” he announced to the Housemates, as they stated their case for a place in the House. “But as I said I would really like to win Big Brother to help my Dad out.”
Unique and enthusiastic, Travis immediately fell into step with the girls of the BB House – particularly Renee, Rebecca and Brigitte. Forming the Sparkle Club with Rebecca and Brigitte, Travis was always a sounding board for the girls, helping them through their tough times in the BB House. But after Rebecca’s departure the Sparkle Gang crumbled but ‘Sparkle Out’ remained tirelessly en vogue.
The boys took a little longer for Travis to win over, but it wasn’t long before he’d developed a playful friendship with Nobbi. Constantly wrestling, mucking around or teaching each other new skills, Nobbi was hurt and angry when he heard Travis had left him out of his list of favourite Housemates, and accused him of not being “authentic”.
After confronting him over being “not genuine” and “telling everyone what they want to hear”, Nobbi and Travis managed to repair their friendship, but the damage was done and Travis’ reputation was officially tarnished.
A naïve and impressionable Housemate, Travis’ Christian beliefs – especially his view on abstaining from sex before marriage – caused almost as much controversy in the House as debate over Travis’ sexual preferences raged.
Adamantly heterosexual, Travis focused all his romantic attentions on Renee, admitting he held a candle for her. Renee had to gently let her friend down, but his crush for her endured. After earning the FNL winners’ powers by default, Travis chose to take Renee into the Strategy Room for a special dinner for two. They even entered a pretend marriage, but Renee was forced to put the brakes on when she realised for Travis, it wasn’t a joke.
Teamed with Brigitte to shake his groove thang in the dance task the two came to blows over Travis’s lack of Disco Fever. Travis had been a big Brigitte supporter but it all fell down over the disagreement and the friendship was temporarily stalled, but didn’t take long to return to its former glory.
Travis fought it out in an intellectual duel named ‘The Battle of the Secretaries’ but Brigitte proved tough competition for Travis. Officially named the least intelligent HM, Travis wore the crown and the make up with pride.
But a big spanner was about to be thrown into the works. Nobbi tried to coerce Travis into hanging more with the blokes, telling him that the boys valued his friendship more. They told him all wasn’t as it seemed and Alice hadn’t been speaking highly of him. It all ended up in tears in a confrontation in the hot tub where Travis admitted Alice was his least favourite HMs and citing that she had lied to him. Alice teared up and a distraught Travis ran from the scene emotional and confused.
In the light of day Alice and Travis mended their friendship but Nobbi’s bond with him was in tatters and would take a lot longer to mend. The event reverberated throughout the week and split the House in two. But Ben – Travis’ “second best friend” was able to repair his relationship with The Voice, and the two remained tight until the very end.
A midweek hot tub soiree turned into a moment that Travis will never forget. It was good old truth or dare once more and Alice had to choose a boy to kiss … she chose Travis! It was Travis’ first French kiss, it wasn’t elegant, it wasn’t rehearsed. Their lips met, mouths opened and Alice’s tongue crossed the threshold of Travis’s mouth. But overwhelmed and unsure, Travis bit back, literally biting down on Alice’s kiss! Luckily she recovered and the two had a good old laugh about the tongue lashing.
Travis had even coined his own phrase during his time in the House and it’s not just ‘possumism’. It’s a point in time where you say something you wish you could take back – which the HMs named ‘a Trav Moment!’
Rory also held a special place for Travy, overcoming his initial frustrations about what he believed to be Travis’ “stubbornness”. Rory taught Travy the ins and outs of bricklaying, and the pair created a $250,000 wall with the prize money and later, their very own letterbox. In turn, Travy taught Rory how to properly answer a phone and about his life as a PA.
His last weeks in the House were a turbulent ride for Travis. His good mate Brigitte was ousted, but uber-celeb Pamela Anderson walked in and rocked his world. But it was BB’s Big Sting which turned Travis upside down – his faux Eviction stirring uncontrollable tears in The Voice, and elation once he was told he would be returning to the House.
In his journey in the House there were highs and lows, fights and festivities and throughout Travis always stayed ‘possumistic’. A constant source of support in the House, Travis was the one the HMs turned to if ever they needed an ear and someone to lean on, and left many of the HMs he encountered with life lessons.
